Your excursion departs from Icy Strait Point where you will board our covered tram and cruise leisurely through this enchanting old growth forest. You will be amazed at the diversity of the forest as you witness new growth, flowers, blow downs and a variety of flora and fauna set against the backdrop of the nearby shore of Icy Strait. You then travel to a unique place where very few have gone for the finest opportunity to see a wide variety of indigenous species. Be on the lookout through the forest for Sitka Blacktail Dear and Brown (Grizzly) Bear that inhabit this island.
Icy Strait Point is known for some of the most spectacular marine wildlife viewing too, so watch for whales, porpoise, seals and sea lions just off the beach. The final destination will include a visit to view an active bald eagle’s nest. Wonder as you gaze down upon the spa-sized nest carefully constructed amidst the forest’s canopy of old growth spruce trees, not more than a few hundred feet of the ocean’s shore.
Minimal walking will be on uneven terrain so be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes. We suggest you bring binoculars and a camera for this captivating excursion.
