Get on your bike and learn what day to day life is like for the residents of the tiny coastal village of Hoonah when you take an intimate ride through Alaska's largest Tlingit settlement. Then take off for a drive to the top of the mountain for your ride on the world's longest ZipRider™ at 5,330 feet long, including a 1,300 foot vertical drop! Accelerating to a maximum speed of 60 mph, your 1.5 minute ride will touchdown on the beach at Icy Strait Point.
Combine the Hoonah Bike Trek and the ride your really don't want to miss, ZipRider™! After being fitted for your bicycle and helmet and receiving a safety briefing, you will begin your cycling trek. Learn what day to day life is like for the residents of the tiny coastal village of Hoonah when you take an intimate bike ride through Alaska's largest Tlingit settlement. Your local guides will lead you along the coastline as you explore this small coastal village that is home to nearly 900 residents. Learn how the people and community survived the fire of 1944 that burned the entire community to the ground as well as the dislocation of the Huna Tlingits from Glacier Bay when the mighty glaciers advanced over their village sites. Be sure to keep watch for the abundance of wildlife that inhabits the waters and forests surrounding the village.
Then it is off for a drive to the top of the mountain for your ride on the world's longest ZipRider™! At 5,330 feet long, including a 1,300 foot vertical drop, you will accelerate to a maximum speed of 60 mph, pass through a wooded area, soon afterward the bottom will drop out and you will be 300 feet above the ground. If your eyes are still open you will see sweeping views of Port Frederick, Icy Strait and your cruise ship. Your approximate 1.5 minute ZipRide ends with a touchdown on the beach at Icy Strait Point.
Participants must be at least 10 years old, 54-inches tall and between 90 and 275 pounds. This tour involves approximately 0.25 mile of walking downhill and 8 miles of cycling on flat dirt and paved roads. Pregnant women and persons with back and/or neck problems are not permitted to participate. Participants should wear warm layered clothing, waterproof outwear and closed toed shoes. Loose and dangling clothing is not allowed. Participants should be aware that there are certain inherent risks involved in any cycling excursion.
