Employment with Icy Strait Point

Icy Strait Point has approximately 100 seasonal positions in a wide variety of

areas from tour guides to ZipRider operators to cleaning crew. We are operate whenever

there is a ship calling at our private port; in 2010 there are 64 ships during the visitor season,

May through September. Some of our positions work on non-call days, but primarily our

workweek is about 3 days per week.

Programs: These are the positions that work the Icy Strait Point excursions. Guides

take guests on excursions and provide information about the scenery, wildlife, history,

geography and culture. Dock Reps sell pier-side tickets for excursions and assist guests

in finding the right excursion for them. Actors perform Tlingit legends using song and

dance in Icy Strait Point’s Heritage Center Theater. Cooking class staff show guests the

Alaskan way to fillet, grill and eat halibut and salmon and other seafood in the Wild

Alaska Culinary Extravaganza.

Bus Drivers must possess a Commercial Driver’s License with a passenger endorsement.

Facilities: The positions in this department are the backbone of our operation and are the

cleaning crew, grounds and facilities maintenance crew, mechanic and safety and security

crew. Our facilities department do most all of the carpentry, re-modeling and repair work

on-site without outside help.

Food and Beverage: Icy Strait Point has several food and beverage venues and offers

seafood from the local abundant waters. We have positions for cooks, lead cooks, prep

cooks, wait-staff, dishwashers, a bartender, cashiers, and positions for fish processors

who flash freeze and ship the catch from the guests onboard the sport fishing fleet.

ZipRider: Icy Strait Point features the world’s longest zipline that runs from a mountain

ridge to the beach. This department employs operators who assist guests with buckling in

and out and a host that accompanies our guests when they step off the bus at the top

parking area on the short walk to the top tower.

Retail: Of course there’s shopping at our port! Retail Sales workers sell logo items in

our company store that also features our operational canning line, Icy Strait Point brand canned salmon at our salmon kiosk,

ZipRider hats and shirts and other items at the bottom tower of the ZipRider, and Alaskan

souvenirs in our Wild Alaska Souvenir shop.
